After traveling pregnant on a donkey for numerous days, Mary and Joseph came to Bethlehem and were communicated that there were no places to stay. The guesthouses were full. Seeing that Mary was at the last stage of pregnancy, a holder of an inn told Joseph that they could stay in his stable. 

Mary and Joseph sat in the stable with animals sleeping. Mary went into labor and gave birth to Jesus Christ in the stable.

During this time, an angel appeared in front of some shepherds and told them the good news of the birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. The shepherds immediately went to find baby Jesus, which the angels told them they would find sleeping in the manger. And this day is now celebrated as Christmas all around the world as a symbol of birth of new hope and goodness every year.

HOW IS CHRISTMAS CELEBRATED?

Christmas is a very colourful and bright festival celebrated across India by people of all faiths enthusiastically. People clean their houses, bake their cakes and puddings, decorate their houses with special lightings.

Christmas has also been Indianized and draws influences from other beliefs. Many Christians make desi sweets like Laddoos and barfis along with cake and pastries.
